Ondine usually comes across as water; here it came across as the water's mind. The dynamic range was wide but never noisy, and the climaxes were timed so that the return of the opening figuration felt inevitable. Her pedaling left the harmony clean at the points where the piece wants to blur, and blurred it where it wants to be clean.
